This set of scalloped vanity or buffet mats is made of linen in light flax color and embroidered with branches of yellow and orange flowers. Lots of wonderful embroidered details. The edge is machine lace that is blanket-stitched to the linen. The small mats are 8 inches in diameter. The larger oval is 11 x 15 inches.
Condition is excellent vintage. One of the smaller mats needs a single stitch to retain a break in the lace and the large piece has a slight stain that I reduced with a few drops of water and will probably come out with proper treatment. It is barely detectable.
This is part of a lot of small antique linens. The pieces are from the earliest years of the 20th century. Most are created from the same linen, using the same color schemes and certainly they look to have been done by the same hand.
