This lovely little linen mat is the perfect size to line a bread tray if you have one or have inherited one. This is a Victorian piece, just 6 x 12 inches with delicate scalloped edge with satin stitch finishing and a dainty little appliqued pear at each end. The leaves and outlining is all done in whitework. Excellent needlework.
I used to find bread trays all the time but either they have all been bought up or melted down for scrap metal. If you are lucky enough to have one, this mat will really dress it up for a special dinner. Otherwise it would make a great base for a crystal perfume atomizer or other antique dresser accessory.
Condition is great for a 100+ year old bit of fine linen.
